✍️🃏Editorial: Dentistry in a land far, far away

My teeth have always been mostly trouble free; however, recently I started to experience some pain and it was time to seek a dentist in Vietnam. After all, it had been 10 or 12 years since my last cleaning, haha.

My wife asked around and somehow found possibly the best dental office experience I have ever had. We were able to schedule an appointment for the next day.

"My Dental Déjà Vu: A Surprisingly Good Experience in Vietnam" - Image and caption created by Gemini because I asked nicely.

On arrival the doorman escorted me to the elevator and made sure I got the correct floor then went back to park my motorbike. Reception greeted me, offered me some water and had me fill out a very short information form. The dentist was punctual and efficient with a quick exam then the latest 3D style x-rays.

The English speaking assistant explained what was needed and what my options were. Including the costs for each line item.

I needed a deep cleaning (not a surprise) and I had one cavity, also, after a lifetime of brushing my teeth regularly my gums are wearing away, so I needed some composite work done on the exposed parts of one tooth (also not a surprise).

The hygienist was quick, gentle and had tiny hands. My last dentist was 6 foot 4, enough said. After cleaning I needed to wait a few days to get the filling and composite work done so my gums could heal.

The next week I easily scheduled an appointment for the next day, at exactly the time I wanted. This never happened with previous dentists.

The dentist quickly did the work required, took some photos, and explained what other work I will probably need later.

Now it was time to pay up, 2 office visits, x-rays, total mouth deep cleaning, one filling and some composite work…Just over $200, no insurance…and this is an expensive dentist for Vietnam.

Not what I expected
